A little something extra – Fairtrade products

So as a small business it is a tricky cycle of sourcing the raw materials, buying, making, labelling and selling soap and candles. I often get asked – do you make or sell…..and I cannot do it all to bring you a little something extra so I will soon be adding your most requested Fair Trade items to our range. .

I have over that last few month sourcing reputable suppliers to provide you with the best choose and you should see some of our new range from next month… so in between keep washing your hands and keep safe.

Wash you out of my hair!

Shampoo bars – are you using one to wash your hair?. The last year has seen a significant rise in shampoo bars, either as a way to reduce plastic waste from the numerous bottles that we take into the shower or from a concern over the chemicals that are in some products.

The market is still niche but the solid shampoo bar is on the rise, the formulas can be very simple but very effective and when you add some essential oils for scent a and their natural benefits you have a winning combination.

We have been asked for a while now from our customers to introduce a range of Shampoo bars to compliment our handmade soap and as we always listed to our customers we are happy to announce the arrival of our handmade bags of goodness.

There will be 4 bars to choose from initially, with the right blend of oils to suit your hair type and add that all important cleaning without stripping the hair of any existing natural oils.

Zero Waste at Whit & Wick

Supporting Zero Waste

By nature we are often drawn to a product by some fantastic bright sparkly packaging but quite often this is thrown away after opening the product and sometimes we are disappointed with what we find inside. Here at Whit & Wick headquarters in our workshop we have tried to be more of a wise owl and use packaging that can be recycled or upcycled instead of the magpie approach with lots of glitz and glamour.

Over the last year we have introduced many changes:  handmade bar soap – no plastic bottles,  paper and hessian wrapping and wooden gift boxes, all of which you can use in your compost heap.

We will continue to reduce our footprint and are currently reviewing options for the outer packaging including the use of wood straw or paper padding for all packing. We are also considering how to offer an exchange service with a discount for all our candle glass jars and tins that are returned to us.

If you have any other ideas to help us please get in touch or if you would like to support Zero Waste in your area there are some good resources at https://www.zerowasteweek.co.uk/
